Our Purpose: To build the Body of Christ by growing mature disciples through: Prayer, Worship, Evangelism, Fellowship, Study, and Christian Service.

Prayers & Squares

Tabernacle’s purpose is to build the Body of Christ by making mature Disciples through Prayer, Worship, Evangelism, Study, and Christian Service.  Prayers and Squares is an important part of our prayer ministry.  The mission of this ministry is to provide comfort and solace to people within the church and friends in far reaching areas of the community, nation, and world.  This is accomplished through the beautiful quilts that are made and delivered as a means of grace to those with specific needs.  The quilts are dedicated during Sunday church services.  Immediately after services, people pray for the recipients and tie a knot on the quilt to represent that prayer.

Prayers and Squares is a multi-generational group with varying skill levels.  They have adopted the motto, “It’s not about the quilts.  It’s all about the prayers.”  They all share the love of Christ and the devotion to discipleship which is obvious in the love that goes into the creation of each quilt.

As of May 2011, 496 quilts have been made and given to individuals.  These quilts represent the many prayers offered for the individuals receiving them.  Thank You notes have been received with comments such as:  “I am cancer free!  Prayers are a wonderful thing!!”; “Thank you for the prayer quilt.  It is the most thoughtful and best gift that I have ever received.”; “It is nice to know that so many people are thinking of me during my time of recovery.”

The wonderful thing about Prayers and Squares is that the entire church becomes a part of this ministry.  You don’t have to know how to sew, attend quilting workshops, like to use an ironing board, or know how to use a sewing machine.  All that is required is the love of God, care for other individuals, and the willingness to pray for another.  It truly is all about the prayers.
