Tabernacle's Mexico Mission Team has returned from a very rewarding mission trip to Tlancualpican, Mexico. Your team participated in A.W.A.R.E. (Alternative Work / study And Reality Experience) through the Give Ye Them To Eat (GYTTE) program developed and administered by Terry and Muriel Henderson, United Methodist Missionaries to Mexico. Working with the local staff and day workers the work accomplishments on a new dormitory under construction included installing the metal trusses for the roof, cutting iron to support the trusses, major chipping of concrete for all of the trusses to expose rebar for welding to the trusses, mixing and pouring concrete floors for the showers, installing paving stones and edging for the patio entrance, constructing and plastering two sink vanities, stacking roofing materials, and pulling electrical wires throughout the electrical conduit in the dorm; & also, major carpentry repair on three pews for the local church; painting in the local church parsonage; painting in one of the staff houses at the Tree of Life Training Center; sifting ash and soil for the dry composting toilets; sifting sand for plaster and concrete; gathering and hauling rock and gravel for building projects; rebuilding from scratch and reinstalling a wheelbarrow handle; major repair / rebuilding of two wooden beds damaged in a fire; gathering wood for the low energy, high efficiency outdoor mud cooking stove; digging a large pit for disposal and sub-irrigation of gray water from the dorm showers and sinks; teaching and demonstrating sewing projects plus cleaning and repairing the sewing machines; conducting a church service and celebrating Three Kings Day at the local church; presenting two Tabernacle prayer quilts - one to the GYTTE Ministry and one to a GYTTE staff member; and other miscellaneous items.
Your team also had the opportunity each day to learn about ongoing GYTTE programs to combat hunger, poverty, and development in the rural sector of southeastern Mexico including More Than A Bandage (a community and family health program), Community Development, Agricultural Development, Livestock Development, and Church and Faith Development. We became AWARE in Tlancualpican, Mexico. Thanks for all of your prayers for your team as the team traveled, worked, and became aware in Mexico.
