Christmas can be a painful time for some. It may be the first Christmas without a loved family member who has recently died; it may be a time that has always been difficult. The anguish of broken relationships, the insecurity of unemployment, the weariness of ill health, the pain of isolation - - all these can make us feel very alone in the midst of all the celebrating and spending. We need the space and time to acknowledge our sadness and concern; we need to know that we are not alone.

For these reasons, Tabernacle Church will offer a special "Longest Night" service on December 21st at 4:00 pm. Please come and join with us in sharing and hearing prayers, scripture, and music that acknowledge God's presence for those who mourn and for those who struggle.

Children's Church is available at the 8:30 service for children ages 3-6 years old. During the service, Pastor Steve will call the children up for a short children's sermon and then they will be dismissed to room #404 (green hallway of new building) for a time of worship, learning and activities geared to their ages. If your child is older then 6 years old they are still welcome to come and be apart of Children's Church at 8:30, but just be aware the activities are designed with younger ones in mind.

Children's Church at the 11:00 service is for children ages preschool through 5th grade. During the service Pastor Steve will call the children up for a short children's sermon and then they will be dismissed to the old assembly room (found at the end of the preschool hallway in the old building, downstairs below the Fellowship hall). The program for the kids at 11:00 is called Adventure Bay and every week the children take a boat trip to an island to learn Bible stories and truths while singing and playing games and meeting some crazy characters along the way!

Worship Committee

The Contemporary Service is in need of someone to work the sound board. This person would need to be here by 8:45 on Sunday morning to set up the system while the singers practice for the service. The sound person would also need to be here during the service itself (9:45 to approximately 11:00). Come out for a spiritual, fun, and exciting experience.

Dates: Friday, Sept. 26, Renewal Service 7:00 PM

            Saturday, Sept. 27, Renewal Service 7:00 PM

            Sunday, Sept. 28, Homecoming Services 8:30 AM, 9:45 AM, 11:00 AM,  followed by a potluck lunch at 12 noon

Reverend Dennis Newton will be our guest speaker at all five services.  Dennis grew up as a child and teenager at Tabernacle.  He is the son of Leroy and Lucille Newton and the nephew of Robert, Louise, Sidney, and Diane Newton.

Special music will be provided at each service.

            Friday's renewal service - Mike Wheelehan, will return and bring a joyful sound with his unforgettable contemporary style. He is well known at Tabernacle and Ni River for his musical talents and performances.

            Saturday's renewal service - Donna Newton Steckler, daughter of Sidney and Diane Newton, will bring us some country gospel with her performing group "GR8FUL".  Donna grew up at Tabernacle and is a former choir director.

            Sunday's Homecoming services - Some special selections by our very own Tabernacle choir and contemporary musicians will be performed at the traditional and contemporary services.

Potluck Lunch - Following the 11:00 Homecoming service, we will have a wonderful time of fellowship with a potluck lunch. Please bring a dessert or side dish to share.  Meat and beverage will be provided.

Mark your calendar now for Sept. 26 - 28 and join us as we sing praises to God and connect with the Holy Spirit with worship and fellowship.

Tabernacle Webmaster

At the core of worship in our sanctuary is the use of the Bible and the United Methodist Hymnal. Scripture is read; there are several responsive readings, and a prayer followed by the Lord's Prayer. The service is accompanied by both the organ and the piano.

Nursery care with experienced adult workers is also available during all services and the Sunday School hour.
